I never fail to be charmed by the humble marking sampler.  I think it is their sense of order and simplicity that appeal to me as much as the way they exemplify the value placed on industry and knowledge.  And when a marking sampler is worked with red thread...well, what more can I say?

This sweet little French redwork marking sampler was worked by Rosalie Amphoux Vauvert likely in the early to mid 19th century. The French words "Fait par" translate to "Made by".  I've stitched the reproduction on 36 count Weeks Dye Works Alabaster linen using The Gentle Art's Pomegranate floss.
