~~ An Antique Reproduction ~~
Ten year old Mary Ann Appleyard worked her colorful sampler with a combination of fine wool and cotton threads. The rows of alphabets and numbers and the moral verse are typical of nineteenth century samplers. At the bottom, Miss Appleyard stitched a cheerful scene including a little red house with a green door and blue roof, birds, apple trees, a large basket of fruit, a fir tree, and a tiny dog. Her childish hand misspelled the words “human” and “her”. These naïve errors make her work all the more charming. The original sampler is shown in the last photo above.
The reproduction is stitched on Week’s Dye Works 30 count Straw linen over one and two linen threads. The Gentle Arts threads used throughout. Pattern includes color photo, professional cross stitch chart, DMC alternates, and general instructions. Stitch count: 151w x 133h ~ 10.25”w x 8.75”h.
