Inspired by the luscious shades of yellow, red and green in my beloved garden, I created this folky Tomato Garden Sewing Box. It features a primitively comb painted box topped by a fraktur-style needle punch flower. I’ve finished the edges of the needlework with twist of my favorite Coopworth lambswool and even tucked a bit under the needlework, too. Perfectly sized to tuck inside are two sweet tomato pinkeeps – one has been cross stitched in a fine tomato red and stuffed with lambswool; the other is a plump fruit made of wool and stuffed with sawdust.
The box measures 4” square x 2.75”h. The cross stitched “Tomato” pinkeep measures 3.5”w x 1.5”h. The plump tomato is 2”w x 1”h.
Included are a full color photo, pattern templates, and detailed instructions for making the needle punch, comb painted box, and both pinkeeps. Basic needle punch skills necessary. E-pattern file size 2.54 MB.
